9.23.17 - Ashlee and Paul

They told me that to make her fall in love, I had to make her laugh. But every time she laughs, I’m the one who falls in love.

Ashlee and Paul will always have a very special place in my heart. They were the first couple to solely book with Griffin Event Management and I will forever be grateful to them. I have known Ashlee and Nish (Paul) since college when they first started dating. She was a cheerleader and he was a football player – it really doesn’t get any more quintessentially adorable than that. They were one of those few rare college couples that actually seemed to really love each other. That love carried them all the way to their wedding day.

As with most brides, Ashlee’s initial vision of the day evolved over the planning process and the result was stunning fall hues of blues and greens with just a touch of lavender. Combined with some hints of mercury glass and metallic, this fall wedding was everything and more. To make it even better, it was all set against the beautiful, rustic backdrop of the McMenamins Cornelius Pass Roadhouse.

The Ruby and Hammerhead were flowing, the DJ was spinning, and this group of friends celebrated like there was no tomorrow. This couple knew that they wanted their family and friends to be able to let loose and have a good time and they were not disappointed.

Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Nishizaki, thank you for letting me be a part of your amazing celebration.

7.7.17 - Kayla and Adam

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
— 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Kayla and Adam loved each other deeply, that was evident from the first time I met with them – just two weeks before their wedding. Kayla, with the help of her mom and sisters, had handled most of the planning but knew that for the day of she needed help with the execution. Adam mostly nodded along at our meeting, content that his soon to be wife was happy and getting the support she needed on their big day. Their story was one right out of a movie. They had known each other since elementary school and been friends, and then in college had reconnected and realize that they really wanted to be more than friends. Fast forward and they were planning a dreamy summer wedding to seal the deal.

They chose McMenamins Edgefield as their venue and catering partner, the perfect place for their mostly Seattle-based family and friends to come and celebrate. The day started with an emotional ceremony rehearsal, with their good friend and mentor acting as the officiant. Then everyone was off the great ready for the day! While they were pampered at the Ruby Spa, the vendor team quickly got to work transforming the Blackberry Hall into the couple’s vision. Fieldwork Flowers supplied the simple, beautiful florals and the catering team at Edgefield set up the family style tables and place settings. DJ Jaron was onsite to provide all the tunes for the occasion and the coordination team set up all the additional décor.

The rehearsal did not prepare anyone for the emotions of the actual ceremony. The bride looked radiant as she walked toward her groom, and he, seeing her for the first time, looked like the happiest man on earth. After the ceremony the bride and groom took photos with family and friends, and then joined their guests in the Hall for dinner, toasts and dancing. And they group danced! The DJ was superb and knew how to keep the party going. The party was so good, we had to (gently) kick everyone out at the end of the night. There is know doubt that this young love will be an everlasting one.

5.27.17 - Val and Marc

I am in you and you in me, mutual in divine love.
— William Blake

Val and Marc are an adorable Portland transplant couple who fell in love in the PNW. Both are from Alabama and grew up only miles away from each other, but never met. It wasn’t until college in Seattle that they finally connected. Some long distance moves and a grand gesture later, they were engaged! My first meeting with Val she insisted we go to Dockside and “grab a bloody.”

I knew this planning process was going to be a fun one.

The theme of the wedding was romance, and romance was in abundance. From the thoughtfully designed color scheme to the home-made Southern sweet ice tea, they wedding was romance and class all the way. But what really made this wedding special was the intimate details that were incorporated into it. Both Val and Marc grew up in the church, but they knew they wanted a venue that highlighted the beauty of the city were their relationship had flourished. The historic downtown EcoTrust was just the place! Add in a beautiful, handmade wooden cross and you almost feel like you are in an open aired church. To top off the sentiment, the bride’s uncle gave her away and she honored her father by pinning his military pin to her bouquet.

After the ceremony, the couple snuck away for pictures with the ever-so talented Brogan Marie, while guests headed inside to sip on sweet-tea and nibble on passed hors d'oeuvres. For dinner the new husband and wife relaxed with guest while ChefsTable served up a delicious meal. After dinner, everyone headed back up to the rooftop terrace to watch the Portland sunset and dance the night away. The night was capped off with a sparkler send off and a ride in a PDX Pedicab for the bride and groom. Cheers to another great love story.

10.15.16 - Tracy and Jeff

I would rather share one lifetime with you than face all the ages of this world alone.
— Arwen from Lord of the Rings

My first meeting with Tracy and Jeff was at the venue they were getting married at, Cornelius Pass Roadhouse. I love this place and was so excited they had chosen it for their big day. Over a couple of Rubys and some tots, I got to know this amazing couple. They are so funny! From the silly jokes Jeff makes to the hilarious, loving way they described their family dynamics, they had me laughing the whole time. Top it all off, they are adorable and madly in love with each other.

Rehearsal the night before went off without a hitch, the bridal party really reflected the couples fun spirit. The next day, an Oregon monster storm came through. We are talking storm warnings and power outages kind of a storm. They didn’t even flinch. Rain on your wedding day is good luck anyways! After the beautiful ceremony, we headed inside the rustic, historic Octagon Barn. Inside they ate dinner, listened to the most heartfelt speeches from their friends and family and danced the night away.

Planning with Tracy and Jeff was a whirlwind. They got engaged in late July and decided they were having a wedding in October that same year and we didn’t have our first meeting until September! Both of them were extremely organized every step of the way. Tracy gave me all her decor in labeled boxes with a itemized list and description of every thing that needed to be put out. A planner’s dream.

10.8.16 - Erin and Robbie

“Walking with your hands in mine and mine in yours, that’s exactly where I want to be always.”
— Fawn Weaver

The first time I talked to Erin on the phone, I liked her immediately. The moment we started talking details of the wedding, I knew I really wanted to work with her. When she started telling me about thier love story, I was hooked. Erin had a very focused vision for marrying her long time love Robbie. Added bonus, Robbie was just as excied and involved in the planning as she was!

Once we started getting into the planning details, I was even more excited. Erin and Robbie had assembled a rock star line up of vendors and thier venue was the ever classic Castaway. They were incoporating all the fun things they loved about each other - her love of dinos, his love of grilled cheese. The day of the wedding came and it was pure magic. The weather held off until the end of the night, everyone looked amazing and Erin married her best friend.

The day of the wedding arrived and the day could not have been more perfect. Erin and Robbie both got ready with thier wedding parties at the beautiful Nines Hotel, which provided the ideal backdrop for the wonderfully talented Maria Lamb. Once at the Castaway, the couple enjoyed a first look that included love notes to each other. After that, Erin did something so special and sweet - a first look with her dad and brother! The ceremony was officiated by Robbie's brother, with the couple sealing the deal with a shot of whiskey. After the ceremony came cocktail hour, family photos, dinner, toasts, dancing and photobooth. The night was capped off by the oh-so-good late snacks provided by The Grilled Cheese Grill. Erin and Robbie's wedding was one for the books.
